Walking GroupSep 21st | Lochearnhead Main Car Park

Hello all,

Our next Walkie Talkies walk is planned for Saturday 21st September starting (and ending) at the main car park in Lochearnhead. The route follows the gradual ascent up Glen Ogle on the line of the former Callander & Oban Railway - now a cycle path and part of the Rob Roy Way. It should take us a maximum of 4 hours to complete the 7-mile circular route that crosses the railway viaduct and then descends back down the glen below with great views of the viaduct.

Meeting at 11am (armed with snacks and a picnic lunch) there will be a couple of options on how we access the higher railway line. The first is a steep uphill route that should also allow us to view the wonderfully preserved Lochearnhead Station that was on the same line as St Fillans. The alternative zig zag style route which is more gradual starts at St Angus church and will soon meet up with the other option.

Once we're all on the main track the gradient is so gentle, you'll hardly notice you're climbing. The suggestion is that we have our picnic lunch just beyond the viaduct, where there will also be great photo opportunities of the glen and roadway below.

After lunch we will meander down through the glen, across the main road and return to Lochearnhead after crossing farmland and a route through woodland.

There is a car park at the top of the glen where some walkers may wish to position a car and do half the walk.

This is a really flexible and enjoyable route taking in wonderful views and the history of the railways. We hope you can join us, if you'd like transport to the start please do let me know by email on [email protected]

Best wishes

Ruth
