Mike Vass

Chris’s Gigs is thrilled to be able to welcome Mike Vass, one of Scotland's foremost musicians to Comrie on 23rd February. Mike is bringing his remarkable new song cycle ‘Save His Calm’ on tour for the first time, in February 2019 and we have secured a major coup in being included on the tour.

Mike wrote much of this music when he was living and travelling on a sailing boat and has drawn on many influences for inspiration. He describes the music as a bit ‘indy, folky, jazzy’ – but whatever the genre, if it’s coming from Mike Vass, it will be beautifully crafted and performed because he is frankly, a genius.

Mike is a previous nominee in the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) award and winner in the Scots Trad music awards composer of the year category. He is a creative force of nature on the Scottish music scene and is much in demand as a producer and collaborator. It’s more a question of who he HASN’T worked with than who he has! 2019 sees him back touring his own music for the first time in four years and this is not to be missed!

He's performing at the wonderful Glasgow festival Celtic Connections which starts on Thursday 17th Jan but you don't have to go all the way to Glasgow because you can see him right on the doorstep in Comrie.

Mike will be supported by the daughter/father combo of Anna and Jamie Jauncey. 

Anna is a Scottish singer-songwriter who has been living in Canada for the last two years. With their intricate melodies and poetic lyrics, her songs are described as being 'both retro-sixties/folky and really contemporary’.

In the course of a long musical career, Comrie-born Jamie has played with artists as diverse as Peter (Where Do You Go To My Lovely?) Sarstedt and Shooglenifty frontmen Luke Plumb and Angus R Grant.
